On a sunny day in 2001, Karin Ziegler founded the brand Blutsgeschwister (meaning "sisters of blood" in French) with a small circle of visionaries and free spirits. The idea was born in an abandoned industrial site near the Stuttgart Nord train station and continues to be upheld today: unique and sustainable fashion for women who have found their place, away from the usual fashion trends.
Karin Ziegler, chief stylist and CEO, is the heart of Blutsgeschwister and an endless source of creativity and imagination. She crafts and creates clothing with her heart, hand, and mind, producing items that are truly one-of-a-kind.
Over the years, Blutsgeschwister has experienced significant growth, with around thirty people now working at its headquarters, which has since relocated to Berlin. The brand's colorful creations now extend well beyond the borders of Germany.
Through its collections, Blutsgeschwister transports its customers to worlds of fabrics and patterns that bring excitement to their daily lives.
Since its inception in 2001, Blutsgeschwister has acted as sustainably as possible, emphasizing responsible management of its clothing. The brand uses the most environmentally friendly raw materials available (organic cotton, Tencel, eco-friendly Ecovero viscose) and continually works on more ecological solutions throughout the supply chain. This also involves a conscious and decelerated approach in the development and design process. Blutsgeschwister does not follow fashion trends but designs its clothing with the goal of wearing them for as long as possible, even exchanging or reselling them – in essence, embracing the slow fashion movement.
The current collections are 100% free of animal materials. The brand consistently abstains from using real fur, genuine down, angora, cashmere, or silk. While not excluding the use of wool in the future due to its wonderful properties, Blutsgeschwister ensures animal welfare is paramount. In addition to recycled wool, the brand ensures it comes from controlled organic farming.
From a social standpoint, Blutsgeschwister pays close attention to working conditions in the textile industry and respects the workers who manufacture its clothing. The brand is a member of the Fair Wear Foundation, an international multi-stakeholder organization based in Amsterdam working continuously to improve working conditions in textile production.
It's not the name, which might be too complicated to pronounce, that will win you over! But for everything else, you won't be disappointed: exceptional dress cuts that make women shine, whether they wear size 36 or 46; incredible prints and color combinations unique to Blutsgeschwister; a variety of materials offered, including jersey, fluid viscose, and organic cotton, ensuring comfort in every Blutsgeschwister garment; the brand's social and environmental commitment because it's reassuring to know that the people who made your favorite dress are not struggling workers in Bangladesh.
